The countdown to Winter is on!!! I LOVE using themed activities in my speech therapy telepractice sessions with kids of all ages.
November through January is my favorite time of year, as there are several major holidays that lend themselves to themed activities. In our speech therapy practice, we need to be culturally sensitive, and I know that not all families celebrate certain holidays. So in addition to Christmas themed activities, I also use “Winter” themed activities during December and January.
If you read my Thanksgiving Telepractice Activities blog, this one is organized in the same way. I have compiled a list of themed activities, sorted by grade level. In my own practice, I usually select three to four activities that can be customized to address each child’s goals and use them throughout the week. I’m providing many more than four options below, but I hope these activities will help simplify your speech therapy lesson plans for the next few weeks leading up to Christmas and beyond.
Please know that I do not endorse any of these sellers nor do I receive any commissions if you choose to use or subscribe to any of these sites (with the exception of Telepractice Tools). All of these materials are readily available to everyone on the worldwide web. You may need to create an account to access some activities if you do not already have one (e.g., Epic and Boom LearningSM).
Before we get to the list, here are a couple quick tips:
- If you need stimulus items to accompany any of the general reinforcers, I like to use www.homespeechhome.com or their mobile World Vault app.
- Use CTRL+F (Windows) or COMMAND+F (Mac) to quickly search for your desired grade level in this post. Enter your grade level or goal area, and all of the activities that match your search on this page will be highlighted. Enjoy!

Now let’s look at telepractice activities for elementary students.
Telepractice Activities for Elementary Students
I’ve also created Winter Themed Lesson Plans for Elementary Students that are appropriate for students working on a variety of goals, including:
- Articulation
- Vocabulary
- Grammar
- Comprehension
- Answering questions
- Fluency
Each lesson plan follows my standard template for planning telepractice sessions for elementary students. There are three levels: K-1st grade, 2nd-3rd grade, and 4th-5th grade.
These activities can be used to target articulation, language, and fluency goals. For preschool children who are working on expanding their utterances or vocabulary, they can use activities such as Make a Snowman to request the “red scarf” or say “Can I have red scarf?” For older elementary students working on articulation, they can read the word lists and then form their own sentences using target words in an activity such as Christmas Word Search.
These activities can be used to play “I Spy” to work on vocabulary and describing. “I spy something that swims and has fins.” You can also have fun finding the target items that the children describe, “It is on the squirrel’s shirt.”
These reading passages can be used to address articulation, language, and fluency goals. There are questions included with each passage.
These activities can be used in speech therapy for your students working on articulation, language, and fluency.
Students can create their own stories using target words to address articulation and fluency. These reading passages can be used to address articulation, language, and fluency goals.
